  1. HONEY

Honey makes an amazing topping for different foods like toast slices, pancakes, waffles etc. It also serves as an unadulterated sweetener and a natural energy booster. For more information on the benefits of honey, see our posts on Why you should be obsessed with honey.

   2. FRUITS

Fruits

Fruit toppings are simply amazing. They do not only add flavour to food, they also increase the nutritional value of your meal. Fruits can enhance the appearance of your meals and they can help you make your food cravings healthy. Consider putting some banana on your pancakes. Bananas are great sources of potassium, fiber and Vitamin C. You could also try adding different varieties of dried or fresh apples to your oatmeal. Apples are rich in fiber and carbohydrate, and you know what they say about an apple a day…

Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is enriched with more nutritional benefits than regular white table sugar. It contains a great deal of zinc, water, energy, protein, potassium and a load of vitamins. Try it out with your oatmeal, pancakes and it can even be enjoyed with donuts in place of white table sugar.

    4. NUTS

Nuts

Nuts add a world of crunchy goodness to your meal. They provide a good amount of protein and calcium. Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a paste of ground peanut and can easily be made at home. It serves as a yummy spread for toast, biscuits and is even served as an African traditional appetizer with garden egg. This delicious tasting food topping contains vitamin E, and fibre for bowel health.

    6. TOMATO KETCHUP

    7. VEGETABLES

Veggies

Vegetable toppings are one of the most popular food toppings in Africa, like pumpkin leaves, fresh onions, carrots, spring onions and tomatoes. When chopped nicely, they can serve as both toppings and garnishes. They also provide us with a range of nutrients from vitamins to minerals and even fibre.
